We are thrilled to announce the release of Blue SDK 7.4, now supporting Bluetooth® Channel Sounding, with its power efficiency, enhanced security and higher accuracy relative to legacy systems based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), providing the ability to seamlessly upgrade existing solutions.
The Bluetooth® standard continuously evolves from the original concept as a simple wire replacement to adding more sophisticated security and distance sensing technology.
Bluetooth Channel Sounding, included in the Bluetooth 6.0 Core Specification, is a significant evolution of the new LE 2M and Coded PHYs, paving the way to a new class of autonomous, location-aware systems for increased awareness of the environment for more secure applications.
Up to now, Bluetooth LE systems used RSSI for localization with limited accuracy and known security vulnerabilities. Bluetooth Channel Sounding uses phase-based ranging (PBR) for accuracy combined with round trip time (RTT) for end-to-end security, so compatible devices can consistently determine distance with enhanced accuracy and security. As an example, using Bluetooth to unlock your car or home can be managed much more securely as communication between the devices can determine their distance with a very high accuracy, so that applications are smarter and more secure enabling a much better user experience.
