VIRTIO enables OEMs and Tier-1s to go way beyond the typical application development offering in the Cloud for the first time ever. With VIRTIO they are free to develop on multiple OSes simultaneously – even operating systems that have not been specifically ported to run virtualized in the Cloud. In the future, this technology will enable a whole new approach to the design of software-driven in-vehicle functions and enable Software Defined Architecture (SDA) platforms. To do this, virtualization hides hardware, system management and orchestration. This approach is also very useful for designing software architectures in cars.
